GeoNight on the Gyöngyös campus

The Károly Róbert Campus of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences also joined to the GeoNight event series announced by the Hungarian Geographical Society on April 9. The main goal of the Geography Night program is to draw attention to the importance of geography. In accordance with the request of the organizers, playful, light-hearted programs have come to the fore again this year, as they can appeal to young and old alike.

The staff of the International Relations Office of the Gyöngyös campus (Dóra Póka and Barbara Tátrainé Bíró) together with two students, Elizaveta Polishchuk and Omar Qasem, organized a program on the occasion of the Night of Geography. The basic idea came from the "treasure-seeking forest walk", or Geocaching, and Sástó provided the location, taking advantage of the pleasant spring weather.

The organizers hid seven envelopes on the shore of Hungary's highest artificial lake. The participants solved various logical and dexterity tasks and collected letters, from which they were finally able to reveal the name of the closing place of the day. In addition, they had to figure out how and where to find the next station based on various clues. After completing the seven tasks, a short tour awaited the members of the two 5-person teams, as the day ended in Mátrafüred, at the Kozmáry lookout tower.

At the last stop, Dr. Zoltán Bujdosó, the general director of the Gyöngyös campus, was waiting for the students, who briefly summarized the purpose of the GeoNight program series for the company, and then participated in the organization of the last game. At the foot of the observation deck, the two teams even had to solve a series of 10 riddles. In each case, the point was awarded to the company from which the correct answer arrived faster. Although the purple eventually won the game against the blue after a close fight, no one left the program empty-handed. Everyone received a gift package put together by the Student Self-Government. The program was a great success among the participants, so the organizers are already planning to continue it.
